RIO workshops are skills-based, two-session group classes led by CMHS clinicians and offered weekly through the semester. RIO groups are free, and open to both undergraduate and graduate students. Through the teaching and practice of mindfulness and stress reduction strategies, RIO groups increase self-awareness, self-acceptance, and positive coping. Each session focuses on a specific coping strategy:
- Recognition – become aware of moment-to-moment experiences
- Insight – more easily understand how you experience and respond to distress
- Openness – move towards becoming more open and accepting of your experiences, while demonstrating openness to more effective coping.
